This is a blog i've been anxiouly waiting to write. sometimes i loose track of time outdoors because the days just seem to mesh together.
i just spent some time researching ideas to share with you.
here's something incredibly simple to put together.
materials:
1. glass vase (THE GOODWILL IS AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO LOOK)
2. white & brown acrylic paint
3. YOU CAN EITHER GET A BUNCH OF BRANCHES AND GLUE ON FALL LEAVES, OR USE A FAUX ONE
4. GET A FAUX CROW TO ADD TO THE VIGNETTE
when you get your vase, start with painting it white and allowing to dry. then stipple with your brush some brown paint like seen above. stippling is when you tap the surface with your brush. when your finished, your vase should look like the one above.
ANOTHER SUPER EASY ONE.
YOU CAN PURCHASE SKELETON HANDS AT THE DOLLAR TREE. PLACE THEM IN WITH YOUR COOKING UTENSILS IN A CROCK.
ANOTHER SIMPLE ONE. FIND A MASON JAR, BLACK FELT, ORANGE PAINT AND RAPHIA RIBBON AT THE DOLLAR TREE.
1. START WITH PAINTING THE MASON JAR ORANGE AND ALLOW TO DRY. YOU MIGHT NEED TO PAINT A SECOND COAT.
2. NOW ROLL THE FELT BLACK PIECE INTO A CONE THAT YOU'LL THEN PULL OUT ONE END TO MAKE A HAT.
3. TIE A BOW WITH SOME OF THE RAPHIA RIBBON.
4. LASTLY, PAINT THE FACE OF THE PUMPKIN FIGURE.
when finished, think about grouping 3
decorating like this will give your decor a much better impact inside your French Country home.
THIS PROJECT USES A WINE BOTTLE, WHITE PAINT, FAIRY LIGHTS, SKULL RIBBON, BLACK TULLE AND A BLACK SHARPIE.
1. START WITH PAINTING THE BOTTLE WHITE AND ALLOWING TO DRY.
2. THEN PLACE THE FAIRY LIGHTS INSIDE THE BOTTLE, VERY CAREFULLY. PLUG IN WHERE YOU'LL BE USING IT, GATHER THE EXTRA LIGHTING WITH A RUBBER BAND, TIE WITH A PIECE OF RIBBON AND RUN A BEAD OF HOT GLUE ON THE BACK OF THE RIBBON AND ATTACH TO BACK OF BOTTLE.
3. DRAW THE FACE ON.
these decor pieces for halloween make a huge impact when grouped together.
THESE ARE MADE WITH POOL NOODLES.
first decide on how big you'd like to make this decor. do you want a table top version, or having it on the floor.
1. CUT THE NOODLES INTO 5 DIFFERENT SIZES - depending if it's for the table top, or on the floor.
2. PAINT EACH NOODLE BLACK.
3. place tea lights at the top of each one. to make this easier, use a steak to carve out a little area for tea lights.
4. BEGIN ATTACHING THEM TOGETHER WITH A DAB OF HOT GLUE.
5. TIE TOGETHER WITH A PIECE OF ROPE GOING AROUND SEVERAL TIMES.
THIS PROJECT IS A LITTLE TIME CONSUMING, BUT LOT'S OF FUN.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- TOMATO CAGE (AT HOME DEPOT)
- SMALL WHITE SHEET
- WHITE TULLE
- FAIRY LIGHTS
BLACK VINYL
1. START WITH PULLING THE TOP OF THE TOMATO CAGE TOGETHER, FORMING A SPIKE.
2. ATTACH THE LARGE STYROFOAM BALL OVER THE SPIKE.
2. STRING THE LIGHTS AROUND THE CAGE.
3. DRAPE THE WHITE SHEET & GAUZE OVER THE ENTIRE PIECE.
4. CUT AND ATTACH THE EYES
NOW HAVE FUN PLACING THIS NEW HALLOWEEN PIECE
it took me a little while, but i think i have it figured out in making these little cutties.
NOW, PLEASE DON'T LAUGH. MANY TIMES I NEED TO EITHER DRAW OR CREATE A 3D MODEL FOR BEING ABLE TO DESCRIBE INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE IT.
STEP 1. FIRST THINK ABOUT THE SIZE YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE THESE. BLOW UP A BALLOON IN THE SHAPE YOU SEE ABOVE, SIMILAR TO A PERSONS HEAD. YOU DO NOT WANT A ROUND HEAD.
STEP 2. DEPENDING ON THE SIZE YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE THESE, ATTACH A ROUND STYROFOAM BALL UNDER THE BALLOON.
STEP 3. TAKE PIECES OF AN UPCYCLED WHITE SHEET. FIRST CUT A LARGE PIECE FOR THE BODY AND ROLL IT TILL YOU HAVE A NICE BULKY BODY. yOU'LL DO THE SAME FOR THE ARMS AND LEGS. JUST MAKE THEM PROPORTIONED TO THE BODY.
STEP 4. NOW CUT STRIPS OF THE SHEET, LONG ENOUGH TO WRAP AROUND 1 FULL PIECE. THEN CUT SEVERAL MORE IN THE SAME SIZE. THESE STRIPS WILL BE USED TO WRAP AROUND THE LITTLE PERSON YOU JUST MADE. TAKE 1 AND GLUE IT UP AROUND 1 SHOULDER, RUN IT DOWN TO THE FEET. TAKE ANOTHER PIECE AND DO THE SAMETHING, ONLY WRAPPING IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. CONTINUE DOING THIS TILL YOUR HAPPY WITH HOW IT LOOKS.
NOW GET YOURSELF SOME PLAID FABRIC FOR THE SKIRTS AND HAIR BOWS.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? ARE YOURS THIS CUTE?
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THESE. I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE THEM.
very french country for halloween.
the first step is to recreate the stem of your plastic faux pumpkin. A short and squatty stem changes the look of the entire pumpkin, so I opted to build a longer stem out of air dry clay before creating the terra cotta look.
Because air dry clay can break very easily, it is best to use a drill and screw to attach a piece of wire first. Drill your wire directly into the stem. Any type of wire, like a metal coat hanger, will work for this.
When your wire is attached, take air dry clay and form it directly over the wire. Mold it into a long curved pumpkin stem for an authentic look or create your own version that you love. I like the air dry clay for these type of pumpkins because it is easy to use and looks more like a natural pumpkin stem.
Allow the air dry clay to dry and harden for approximately 2-3 days before moving on to the next step. If your air dry clay cracks during the hardening process, don't worry! This is normal for this type of material. This is also why the wire is added so the clay can be held together if there is some separation.
If you do find a crack, simply fill it in with paint as you are adding your paint layer. The crack will blend in with the texture of the stem.
Next up, it is time to add your paint colors. It is best to lay down a drop cloth or some type of floor coverage before you begin painting your small pumpkins.
For this DIY project I used a charcoal spray paint for the first coat, but any craft or acrylic paint will work on your plastic jack-o-lantern. I prefer the dark paint to a lighter color because it is neutral and blends well with my color scheme. If you have larger pumpkins, be sure to get coverage over the entire area. Then allow your coat of paint time to dry.
When the first coat is dry, it is now time to apply your chalked paint for the second coat. You can pick this up at Joann's or another local craft store. Chalked paint is great because it provides you with a strong matte finish and gives you so much texture for your terra cotta paint look.
Use a paintbrush to apply your chalked paint evenly. Apply multiple coats of paint if necessary for coverage.
Take your painted pumpkin and apply baking soda while there is still wet paint. This will give you a nice finishing touch on your inexpensive pumpkins. Baking soda does not typically react with paint. Instead, it just dries and will give a terra cotta-like texture for the finish.
Now it's time to add your baking soda for the finishing touch. Baking soda doesn't typically react with paint. Instead, it dries and gives it a terra cotta-like texture, creating a good dupe of terra cotta exterior.
Proceed by dumping baking soda over the top of the pumpkin. Grab a dry paintbrush and slightly dab it in the chalked paint, a little bit at a time. Then, use that same brush (with paint on the brush) to pat in the baking soda all over the pumpkin. When you are done, let your pumpkin dry completely.
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED ALL THESE CRAFTS. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
PIN IT TO REMEMBER IT
thank you so much for being here. i hope we'll share even more very soon.
