I know that all of you are all set for Christmas and thinking only of that. I'm hoping for snow this year, but it's feeling a lot like last year with very mild weather. It's very cold, don't get me wrong, but no snow predicted.
When decorating for Winter, think White. Everything White, even your furniture. Easy enough, you can purchase slipcovers to put over your existing furniture and only costs $50.00 for a side chair and $50.00 for a sofa. Keep in mind, these are only for the winter months, then you can put away till next year.
Decor is something else that should be thought of as White. Not all pieces need to be completely White and could have a bit of color like red berries that are prevalent in winter. Many of bushes have little red berries on them and look gorgeous against the snowy white.
This statement piece is very simple, yet so elegant.
The use of greenery is something so simple to do and makes a huge impact against stark white.
Even pine branches will work. If using these, place a bowl of water inside your planter to keep the cuttings fresh.
Stop to think about where you'd like to add a bit of greenery first, then decide the type of planter you'd like to use. This could be ceramic, metal or glass.
Your fireplace can be a show-stopper in winter.
The fireplace surround painted white with a few white birch logs is all you need. However using greenery across the top of the mantel is even more gorgeous.
Making your own decor is always fun and exciting to see when complete.
Like making snowballs seen here with a bit of greenery.
HOW TO MAKE SNOWBALLS
Supplies
Styrofoam balls
Epsom Salt
Wood Skewers
Foam Brush
White Acrylic Paint
2 Types of Glitter - (1) fine white glitter and (2) white flake glitter
Mod Podge
Start with placing a skewer in one of your styrofoam balls
Then paint ball white. Paint several coats. Place it inside a piece of something deep and square. Continue to paint all your balls.
Pour half a bag of Epsom Salt into a mixing container and add both glitters
Begin painting your balls with Mod Podge, one at a time
Then roll in the glitter mixture. After you've rolled the ball in glitter, use your hands to continue rolling. Then add more Mod Podge to the ball and roll again in glitter
Add more Mod Podge and roll in Epsom Salt. Do this again
Add Mod Podge and roll in the flake glitter
Painting your balls with this much Mod Podge will make them rock hard!
